When an opening needs a barrier that lets forklifts and people pass while limiting air, dust or temperature exchange, two options come up: a PVC strip curtain or a high speed door. They cost very different amounts and solve the problem in very different ways. Choosing on price alone is how facilities end up with a strip curtain where they needed a door, or an expensive door where strips would have done.
A strip curtain is a series of overlapping flexible PVC strips hung across an opening. People and vehicles push through them, and they fall back into place. There is no motor, no controls, no moving mechanism.
A high speed door is a powered fabric or panel door that opens and closes rapidly on activation, then seals the opening completely when closed.

In food and pharma facilities, strip curtains are increasingly avoided at critical boundaries. The strips are touched by everything that passes, are difficult to clean thoroughly, and can become a contamination path. Auditors notice. Ask three questions about the opening:
Many facilities use both across the site — high speed doors at the openings that matter most, strip curtains at the rougher internal passages. Matching each opening to what it actually needs is cheaper than putting the expensive solution everywhere.
As a supplementary layer, sometimes — but not as the primary barrier for a properly cold space. The gaps between strips leak continuously, and ordinary PVC stiffens in the cold. For real temperature separation, an insulated or high speed door is the primary barrier, with strips only as a secondary measure if at all.

Strip curtains are cheap to replace but wear visibly and need strip replacement periodically, especially in high traffic. A high speed door costs more upfront but is a durable piece of equipment. Over a long horizon at a busy opening, the door often works out better on total cost and performance.
