In short, the answer is yes. The type of roller shutter you have will determine how safe it is. Most roller blinds for homes have smaller, thinner slats that make them less noticeable when they're closed. Because of this, they are not as safe as large roller shutters. It's important to note that no security measure is 100% sure to keep people out. If you give a thief an hour and an angle grinder, they can break through any wall. No matter what, roller blinds do make a strong barrier that is hard to get through.
Some curtains are made from materials that won't catch fire. In case of a fire, the blinds can be pulled down to separate the areas affected by the fire. This keeps people safe and helps the fire from spreading.
Some roller doors can keep heat in or out. This is done by putting insulating materials, like foam, inside the hollow boards. We sell insulated roller blinds that are filled with Eco Tech foam, which has a low global warming potential value of 3 and is free of CFCs and ODPs.
